Villa Rica High School

Dress Code

It is the obligation of the students to maintain their appearance and personal belongings in a manner that reflects well on themselves and the school.  It is their responsibility, as well as that of their parents, to see that they are properly dressed and well groomed.  The Dress Code Policy is found in its entirety in the Code of Conduct Board Policy JCDA.  A few simple rules include:

Ø Students should NOT wear clothing that distracts the instructional learning environment.

Ø All pants must be worn AT WAIST.  No sagging or low riding.

Ø Skirts, dresses, and shorts must be BEYOND fingertip length.

Ø Muscle shirts, bare midriff, see-through clothing, halter-tops, tank tops, spaghetti straps, sleeveless shirts, and backless dresses are prohibited.  Attire that exposes cleavage will not be allowed.  Shirts, blouses, and dresses must completely cover the abdomen, back, shoulders, and must have sleeves.  Shirts or tops must cover the waistband of pants, shorts, or skirts with no midriff visible.

Ø Exposed undergarments are prohibited.

Ø Coats and jackets exceeding fingertip length are not to be worn in the building.

Ø Accessories such as backpacks, patches, jewelry, and notebooks must not display (1) racial or ethnic slurs/symbols, (2) gang affiliations, (3) vulgar, subversive, or sexually suggestive language or images; nor should they promote products which students may not legally buy, such as alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs.

Ø Clothing with words, phrases, symbols, pictures, patches, or insignia which are obscene, provocative, disruptive, profane, discriminatory, drug/alcohol/tobacco related and/or gang related are prohibited.

Ø Hats, caps, hoods, visors, headbands, bandanas, skullcaps, scarves, earmuffs, do-rags, or ANY OTHER HEAD ATTIRE are not to be worn inside of the school.  Any headgear that is brought to school should be stored IMMEDIATELY in a locker or book bag.  The headgear should not hang out of the pocket or around the neck of the students.  Students who violate this policy will have their headgear taken up.  It will be returned at the end of the semester or to a parent/guardian at the end of the school day only.

Ø House shoes, bedroom slippers, or any footwear of this nature are prohibited.

Ø Students should not wear pants, jeans, shorts, or skirts with holes or frays of any kind above the knee.

Ø Any adornments such as chains or spikes that reasonably could be perceived as or used as a weapon are prohibited.

Ø Wallet chains are prohibited – whether they are seen or unseen.

Ø Torn clothing is prohibited – whether accidentally or intentionally.

The principal has the authority to determine inappropriate dress.  Students who disregard their responsibilities in personal dress and appearance may be sent home or sent to In-School Suspension until the situation is corrected.
