 11th Grade Lit at Work
Ms. Benoskie, Mr. Berryhill, and Mrs. Walker's 11th Grade Literature classes enjoyed a unique grammar lesson while reviewing and preparing for the English Language Arts portion of the Georgia High School Graduation Test. The students were divided into teams that competed in races to form grammatically correct sentences using cards representing all 8 parts of speech. The lesson not only reinforced the use of the different parts of speech, but also gave students the opportunity to work together in a friendly competition setting.

Scott Named Winner in 2009 CSO Young Composer Competition

Congratulations to Shannon Scott who was named a winner in the 2009 Carroll Symphony Orchestra Young Composer Competition.  Each year, CSO sponsors this event in which Conductor and Musical Director Terry Lowry submits a theme to every music, band, and chorus teacher in Carroll County, and they in turn encourage students to write a short composition based on the theme.  Shannon is a sophomore at VRHS where she participates in the music program under the direction of Ms. Robbin Harry, and she is a piano student of Mr. Neil Pollack.  She is also a member of PHUMC and sings in the youth choir.  Shannon received an Honorable Mention for her entry in last year's competition.  While she does enjoy playing the trombone under the guidance of Ms. Harry, Shannon says that her favorite class this year is AP Music Theory with Ms. Sarah Parker.
